How many times have you heard people say,"If I could get this job I'd be really happy" or "If I could just find the right guy/girl I'd be fully happy".
Life is a long journey. In this journey, you have many needs-financial,emotional etc. In the process of satisfying these needs in our journey we engage in different activities (like Studies, job) and come across different people(like family, friends, acquaintances). All these are transient but the only constant in this journey of yours is YOU. You are responsible for your own happinesses and you have to find them.
To some extent, I agree, our happiness does depend on these activities like job and education and people like family, friends and partner but to put happiness as an if-then-else condition is meaningless. And so is hoping for someone or something to come up in your life, move the magic wand and solve all your problems.
Happiness is not a circumstance to wait for. Happiness is a state of mind, a satisfaction about who you are, where you are and where you're going. There's always a scope, in varied proportions,to change all of these. And when circumstances are really beyond your control you can still continue this journey with the same gusto if you decide. Happiness also lies in doing something for others,in small acts of sharing, helping, giving, listening and also in being with oneself for a while.
Your happiness does not require someone else's validation, permission or approval. Your own happiness is one of the few things you have complete control over and while cultivating it can be hard work, its work that no one else can do for you.
So,be in love with yourself and enjoy life. :)

The need to change the convention...
Its difficult to hear from your male colleagues "Its OK if you don't go for a PG(post graduation) or do just a normal job or even do not work at all. After all your husband will be there to earn for you and your family". It makes me wonder guys even today think in that way. How typical!!
Why cant we still accept that women can have career aspirations which are as serious as men's?? Why does she have to do the additional job of convincing her family, husband etc that what she wants to pursue is not for mere timepass???
Women now-a-days want to earn not because circumstances force her to do so but because she has her own aims to fulfill, because she is strong and ambitious and wants to be independent and, most importantly, because she loves what she does.
I came across this article in a magazine which made me write this post. Have a look at it. It'll make you think too.

With changing times everyone needs to change. Men should respect the jobs their moms, sisters and wives do irrespective of the fact of whether they earn more or less than them. A little support and respect for her aspirations and ambitions is all a woman desires from her family and husband!

Reprehensible...
" 2 CRPF Jawans held for selling ammunition to the Naxals"....
" A Pune girl raped by 2 armymen"...
Few days back our newspapers carried these shocking pieces of news which must have shaken the deep-rooted trust (to a certain extent) all of us place in our army.
All of us are made aware of the innumerable sacrifices our armymen make for the country. The respect which they command from the society cant be gained by anyone else. And they certainly deserve all this.We have been a witness to their exemplary valour on many occasions. Be it the wars or the terrorist attacks or the earthquakes and the floods. Every Indian places them on a pedestal and they are nothing short of an idol for many. This is evident from the fact that many kids vow to join the army at a tender age.
How could these criminals who call themselves JAWANS forget all this???
Did those CRPF jawans think even for a second about their other CRPF colleagues who died and are still dying when these Naxals attack... Don't those two armymen know that women would certainly trust them in spite of being strangers... How could they commit such heinous acts...
They simply had no right to tarnish the worth of their uniforms. And above all they simply had no right to break the trust and the mountain-high pride Indians all over the world, irrespective of caste, creed and age, place in them.

Nostalgia!!
This post is about a topic which everyone has read about but the real feeling just cant be described until experienced. I want to write about my hostel life as its our last year together and of late I think some things (read Internet) has been making us ignorant of people we are close to right now. So an attempt that we make this last year as good as the past two years that have been together and not let anything spoil it.
We are 10 girls in our hostel. All of us have been together for 2 years now.
Today I and one of my hostel friends went for a walk after dinner. And we were discussing this about our hostel and time which remains. Staying together for two years brings you close in spite of any damn problem. We 10 are from different classes, branches and even different colleges. But the connection is still strong. In these years,a routine has been formed. It'll be immensely difficult when we move out and this routine breaks. A memory is attached to every small chore of daily life and that will be missed by all of us.
It starts from the first day of college. How good it feels when you enter the hostel and you are greeted by 8 people badgering you with questions about your holidays.... Every evening which we spend together after college....
The continuous chattering no matter what room you enter or at what hour( the speciality of our hostel is that all rooms are wide open till late at night).... Then the bulk orders for home deliveries...the money matters...the dinners which we have together...the laughter which echoes through the entire hostel when someone shares a joke.... the link ups ( all of which are useless )...
Then the special occasions like bdays, the unplanned long and cosy chats which usually begin at 1 in the night, studying together in PLs,then sleeping in rooms other than ours....
The usual girly stuff of asking everyone's opinion about a new dress, the "fashion shows" when everyone gets ready for no reason at all,the hordes of wishes when you leave for your exam, the times when people are there at your bedside when your ill,the efforts which all of us put when someone is in low spirits, the times when my friends talk to my parents more than I do when they call me... :)
All of this makes me nostalgic.... The tears are real and full of these memories...
Hope we make our last year together too an unforgettable chapter in the pages of our hostel lives as well as our memories.....

(sm)all things bright and beautiful...
Right now my life is full of a number of things to be done. With exams approaching and as the term ends the work which we had very conveniently ignored during the entire semister finally cannot be postponed anymore!!
So,amid all these mounting tensions, here is a post on a topic which is oft-repeated and oft-quoted but gives me a feeling of elation as I think to write upon it.
Life today is materialistic... We often are in awe of magnificent things. And life today is also very fast. We don't have time for each other nor do we have time for ourselves. But in this fast-paced rat race called life we tend to forget to appreciate small things which make it worth living.
The calmness and serenity one experiences while just sitting on a peaceful evening in our favourite place savouring the cool evening breeze and the twitter of birds just cannot be described in words.
To see kids playing after school, shouting as if their lives depend on that game and once in a while even join them in their game.
To take a walk alone into a beautiful night with only the bright, full moon as your companion.
To stare at the clouds and the stars and try to decipher various shapes and formations.
To watch the canopy of sky as it turns from bright azure to melting gold to cool orange as the sun sets.
To hear a mother sing a soothing lullaby to her child and the sight when the child slowly closes his eyes and falls asleep in his mother's arms.
To hear the lilting laughter of children when the final bell of school rings.
To sow a seed in your backyard and experience the joy to see it sprout and bloom.
To clean your cupboard after a long, long time and spend hours discovering things which take you down the memory lane.
To let your hair down and dance to a track you love.
To listen to song after a long gap which stirs memories of the times gone by.
We admire big things but forget the value of these little things which are actually priceless. Treasure these moments you get for yourself...when you can forget your worries for a while, which give you a new vigour and, most importantly, which make you realize life is not only about big happinesses but also about little pleasures :)

When someone breaks your hard-placed trust.....
All of us are very selfish creatures. We ought to think about "ourselves" first in every situation life presents us with.. This may sound very blatant but that's the fact of life..
We protect ourselves from anyone and everyone we meet in our lives and think of our interests foremost. Whether this person will prove to be a good friend to "ME",whether this person can be entrusted with "MY" thoughts,"MY" feelings and "MY" secrets... These are some of the questions our mind has subconsciously when we meet new people and when we are in a stage of developing new relationships.. There is absolutely nothing wrong in this. It is a natural protective tendency...
Sometimes, during the course of developing these new relationships,we stumble upon someone whom we start trusting. Maybe a little at first and then with our lives when all the tests our mind formulates to test that person get over... That person becomes a part of our life....sometimes such an important part that you cannot imagine a day without him/her.. He/she becomes your close confidant and you start sharing your every fickle thought with him/her. Life seems to be at its best during such times.
But what happens when these rose-tinted glasses are shattered by the same person you have been trusting your life with?? Maybe knowingly or unknowingly this person breaks your trust or just walks out of your life which is equally hurting. Why in this big world people don't care for someone's feelings when they know the importance the person places in them... And most importantly how the person affected should trust someone in future...
All of this may sound bitter but i just want to stress the fact that in the course of our daily lives we trample upon feelings of people who love us and trust us which includes family and friends.
Think about them.... The solution is,some of you reading this may say, that we should think twice before trusting someone so much but it is easier said than done. The solution is,I feel, that don't make yourself so trustworthy in someone's eyes when you are not worth it..

Oh no!! Not again...
"Oh no!! Not again"-these are the first words that my brain forms when my alarm clock starts ringing in the morning and i have to get up to usher in a new day..
There is absolutely no problem in my life which makes me dread to start a new day as many of you may think after reading this. The only problem i have in life is with getting up in the morning and i wish i could change that somehow. Any damn hour is just too early for me as i just dont seem to be satisfied with my sleep when i wake up.
Now people reading this would think that i am a big sleepyhead. But that is also not the case. I am a very light sleeper and usually find 7 hours of sleep quite enough for me. The problem lies in my body clock. I just cant shake off my sleep in the morning. Tell me to burn the midnight oil for any work and i have got absolutely no problem with that. In fact,my brain is at its best and performs with optimum efficiency, i feel, at night. I have realised that i find solutions to many problems in my personal and academic life at night. But the case is something else in the morning. I am sleepy in the morning ( in varying degrees) even if i have had a very good night's sleep. I wonder if i was an owl in my previous birth.
Though i have not made any real effort to change this habit or whatever you may call it and accustom my brain to function in the morning whenever i have tried, thanks to my morning school, tutions and now college,i have failed. Many people have tried in vain to explain the freshness, the beauty etc etc of early morning hours to me when "normal" human brain is supposedly most receptive and attentive. The idea, i think, simply bounces off my thick skull and never seeps in and my mom thinks that i am a complete weirdo. The only real progress i have made is that i am in working condition and pull out my brain out of its stupor fairly well after a nice, hot bath and/or a nice chat with someone..
And no wonder whenever i get the chance to stretch my good night's sleep well into the morning without being bothered i make the most of it. I feel weekends and holidays are God's gift to mankind to experience the pleasure of sleeping when the sun is up already..
Sometimes i wish i had a solution to this. Either i could change the weird mechanism of my body or the normal working hours. Both the options seem fairly out of my reach as of now.. And,as many people can guess after reading this post, the next words my brain forms after my alarm clock forces me to open my eyes are-"Plz 5 minutes more!!!"...
